Building elevations

Context

The project site lies within the larger Golden triangle. The site is located approximately 11 KM south west of Johannesburg CBD. The site is bounded by nth Golden Highway P73-1 to the North West with the suburb of Devland Ext 33 and Ext 15 to the South East and South West. The site is approximately 3 km from  Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, 5 km from the Maponya Mall , 11km from Kliptown and 2.5km from the University of the Johannesburg, Soweto Campus..

Urban Design Principles

The site is bisected by the development of a new road that allows for ease of access and mitigates against vehicular congestion. Other design principles within the development  are based on creating positive living environments ,including positive urban responses to the surrounding streets, internal open spaces that offer residents safe and secure landscaped play areas and defined parking  and services areas for washing lines that are clearly defined and well lit during the evening.

Architectural Design Approach and Objectives

The approach of the design is to create a variety of building typologies. These block typologies are designed by integrating a variety of unit sizes. The buildings are designed with similar external finishes arranged to create variety and identity. All residential units are designed to offer a choice in accommodation between one and two bedroom units with varying rentals. The blocks are designed with passive energy principles such as orientation, shading thermal mass and ventilation.
